The hard steel is the steel which having high carbon in its composition. The properties of the hard steel are:-
* It can be easily hardened and tempered.
* It can be magnetised permanently.
* It can not be readily forged and welded.
* It has granular structure.
* It is not easily attacked by salt water.
* It is tougher and more elastic than mild steel.
* It is used for finest cutlery, edge tools and for parts which are to be subjected to shocks and vibrations.
* It rusts easily and rapidly.
* Its melting point is about 1300°C.
* It specific gravity is 7.90.
* Its ultimate compressive strength is about 140 to 200 KN per square centimetre.
* Its ultimate shear strength is about 110KN per square centimetre.
* Its ultimate tensile strength is about 80 to 110 KN per square centimetre.
